Applications are currently being accepted for Student Services Supervisor I at San Diego Mesa College. Under the supervision of the Dean of Student Development and Director of Admissions, the Student Services Supervisor I will be responsible for overseeing the full range of veterans and records and other student services functions including veterans services, veterans educational benefits, veterans success center, attendance, rosters, grades, and other student services areas.

This position will be in the Veterans and Records Office beginning September 15, 2025. Hours are Monday & Tuesday 9:00AM to 6:00PM, Wednesday & Thursday 8:00AM to 5:00PM and Friday 7:45 AM to 1:45PM.

 

Major responsibilities include the following:

 

• Coordinate and supervise office operations and functions related to veterans and records, veterans services and educational benefits, veterans success center, attendance, rosters, and other student services areas.

• Provide leadership and work with staff to develop and maintain a high performance, centralized and responsive service to the District, staff, and campus visitors.

• Supervise, train, evaluate, and assign office staff; participate in the hiring and disciplinary recommendations of staff. Supervise staff within labor contract provisions in a way that contributes to positive employee relations.

• Maintain student records, providing information to students and staff regarding grades, rosters, academic records, and other items on veterans services and educational benefits; responding to inquiries as referred by staff; coordinating and performing veterans services related activities with other departments.

• Provide information to students and staff regarding veterans and records, veterans services and benefits, veterans success center, attendance, rosters, and other student services; respond to more complex questions as referred by assigned staff; coordinate and perform veterans services activities with other college departments.

• Work collaboratively and assist with coordinating procedures and activities with other offices such as the Business Office, Accounting, Financial Aid, Counseling, Department of Veterans Affairs, and other student services programs.

• Assist students and staff in resolving problems and complaints involving veterans services, veterans educational benefits, veterans success center, records, attendance rosters, grades, and other student services areas.

• Clarify and explain complex college veterans services, benefits, records, policies, and procedures to students, faculty, staff, and the community in person, over the phone, or in writing to assure compliance.

• Assure staff compliance during a shift with district rules, policies, and procedures and laws governing veterans education benefits, veteran services, and other student services areas.

• Assist in monitoring budget expenditures for veteran services program areas.

• Serve on special committees and perform special projects as assigned.

• Prepare and maintain reports and statistics as required.

• Assist in developing and implementing the district student veteran policies and procedures, records processing, and calendar.

• Implement Student Equity and Achievement (SEA) Program efforts related to the veterans services and other student services function.

• Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Note that schedules are adjusted as needed to accommodate departmental needs to support peak times. The selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs.
