Engineering Technician I (Part-Time)
The City of Chino Hills is on the lookout for a motivated individual eager to gain real-world experience in engineering. If you're ready to dive into the world of public works and contribute as a part-time Engineering Technician I, we want you on our team! As part of our Engineering team, you'll have the opportunity to perform various engineering tasks, computerized drafting and mapping activities, and other technical duties. This entry-level position offers the chance to learn and grow with direct supervision and support from higher-level staff. Please note that this is a part-time, at-will, non-benefited position with a maximum of 29 hours per week.

An ideal candidate for this role should have the ability and knowledge to:
- Learn city engineering policies and procedures.
- Understand and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
- Prepare and maintain accurate engineering records.
- Have basic Civil Engineering principles and practices.
- Use terminology, methods, practices, and techniques of drafting
- Knowledge of Terminology, methods, practices and techniques of drafting.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City personnel and the public.
Some of the essential duties you may be responsible for:
- Preparing maps, drawings, spreadsheets, data files, and documentation; compiling data for input into the system; developing, editing, and automating data layers; and updating and enhancing the GIS database utilizing various software.
- Working with ARC/Info mapping activities; developing technical programs to perform repetitive tasks utilizing the AutoCAD system.
- Researching records, maps, and other data to obtain engineering data, including the location of sewer stubs and water mains; preparing and maintaining accurate engineering records.
- Conducting research of ownership, legal descriptions, or other such data needed to complete information required for the preparation of construction projects.
- Performing a variety of technical duties utilizing engineering and mapping software and modern computer peripherals, including digitizers, plotters, and printers.
- Updating maps of the City as new roads or other changes are made; duplicating maps as required for City use.
- Conducting traffic studies, which may include observing traffic and movement patterns and taking traffic counts.
- Processing permit applications; calculating fees, completing necessary paperwork, and issuing permits for assigned projects.
- Providing assistance and information to the public, developers, and other City departments on mapping, engineering data, and engineering processes and procedures.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Some technical engineering and geographic information system (GIS) experience or training is highly desirable. Knowledge of basic civil engineering principles and practices, construction plans and specifications, terminology, methods and practices, and techniques of drafting.
EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation of the twelfth grade supplemented by coursework in engineering, construction technology, or a related field.
Preferred: Associate of Arts or Science (AA) degree in Engineering or above from an accredited college or university.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a California Class C Driver’s License with a good driving record.
