Job Summary

The TACHC Intern – Health Policy will support the advancement of access to quality health care in Texas by developing materials and conducting research to inform policymakers, elected officials, and other stakeholders about issues affecting Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). This internship will provide substantive job experience for a graduate student (or qualified upper-level undergraduate) in public policy, public health, economics, social work, or a related field.

The internship will support TACHC strategic plan objectives to strengthen advocacy, promote health equity, and advance operational excellence for health centers. It will also contribute to goals outlined in the Primary Care Association grant with HRSA related to Access to Care, Health Center Leader and Board Support, and Community Health Improvement.

This part-time (15–20 hours/week) internship runs from September 2025 to December 2025, is hybrid with at least one in-office day per week (Wednesday), and is eligible for academic credit subject to approval.

Note: This internship is a part-time, non-exempt position and is ineligible for fringe benefits.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop written materials highlighting health centers, policy changes, programs, and other initiatives for use with policymakers, elected officials, and stakeholders.
  • Compile information from state agency websites and other sources.
  • Research notable practices from other states and payors.
  • Develop a data collection tool to survey health centers.
  • Conduct data analysis using Excel to identify trends in FQHC Uniform Data System (UDS) data.
  • Perform general research and analysis on health centers.
  • Conduct state-based policy analysis.
  • Monitor administrative actions affecting health centers.
  • Track legislative implementation and interim committee hearings.
  • Research and develop issue briefs and other publications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent writing, editing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently in a hybrid/remote setting.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects.
  • Strong research and policy analysis skills.

Credentials and Experience

Required

  • Currently enrolled in a University program in Texas.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred

  • Graduate-level coursework in public policy/administration, economics, public health, or social work.
  • Upper-level undergraduate students may be considered contingent on qualifications.
  • Demonstrated interest in health policy and Federally Qualified Health Centers.
