Recreation Leader
POSITION SUMMARY
Performs a variety of administrative duties related to the planning, directing, organizing, supervising, and controlling the front desk operations, recreation programs, and the facilities in the recreation center. Works under the general supervision of the City Recreation Director and Recreation Manager. Provides general supervision to patrons of the recreation center. This position primarily covers evening shifts, typically from 4:00 - 10:00 p.m. with some Saturdays.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Reports to work on time and ready for the start of the shift.
- Assists the public with membership/program applications.
- Assists in the scheduling of facilities and equipment, answers the telephone, and provides the public with information regarding the programs and use of the facilities.
- Maintains good public relations by being pleasant, courteous, cooperative, and understanding in the contacts and/or discussion(s) with the public.
- Conducts and supervises recreation center programs.
- Performs facility and equipment inspections, corrects the problems, and completes the daily inspection forms.
- Enforces the policies established for the use of equipment and facilities in the recreation center (see recreation center policy).
- Closely monitors facility and equipment use to prevent thefts or damage.
- Conducts inventories at the end of each shift.
- Initiates proper emergency first aid, when necessary, if trained to do so.
- Follows center policy for handling and reporting accidents and completing and submitting accident/injury reports.
- Completes maintenance repair forms when necessary.
- Opens and closes the facility as needed.
- Secures the facility when working the final shift or waits to be properly relieved before leaving an area unsupervised.
- Corrects improper use of equipment; corrects improper or unsafe techniques but refrains from prescribing work out or fitness programs.
- Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE ANDCERTIFICATIONS
- Training in first aid and CPR (obtain certifications within first 3 months of employment)
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge:
- General knowledge of the proper methods and techniques used in weight/ fitness training
Skills:
- General Computer Skills
- Money management and scheduling skills
Abilities:
- Ability to supervise patrons in a courteous manner
- Ability to solve problems
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to work in a standard office environment, and outdoors in all weather conditions; ability to set-up gymnasiums and facilities (some moderate lifting required); ability to travel to different sites and locations; and the ability to cope with stressful situations in a fast-paced environment are essential.
