Under general direction of the Deputy Director, Administration, the Staff Services Manager I (Supervisory) is a working manager and serves as the Employee Relations Officer (ERO) for CALCTRA, responsible for supervising professional staff, managing the departments performance management (progressive discipline) and substance testing programs, including drafting adverse actions, consultation and coordination with stakeholders including departmental management, State Personnel Board (SPB), California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and the Office of Legal Services.

  • Experience providing performance management/progressive discipline advice to managers and supervisors.
  • Experience writing performance management documentation, including Notices of Adverse Action.
  • Experience conducting administrative investigations and writing investigative reports
  • Knowledge and experience of current Correctional Institution human resources practice
  • Policy and procedure development experience
  • Experience working with external agencies (e.g. CalHR, CDCR, SPB) and representing the department.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Ability to organize and establish workload priorities, manage multiple assignments, and work well under pressure.
  • Have demonstrated ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality; store, handle, and maintain confidential and sensitive information; and appropriately establish protocols and procedures to safeguard unauthorized disclosure.
  • Experience with computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint
