Property Accountant I

Location: Houston, TX
Department: Property Management Accounting
Reports To: Senior Property Accountant
Employment Type: Full-Time

Finial Group is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Property Accountant I to join our growing commercial real estate team. This role plays a key part in supporting the day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of industrial properties primarily located in the Southern United States.  Candidate will gain exposure to all aspects of our real estate operations and work closely with asset management, investment, and leasing/brokerage teams.

Key Responsibilities

Property-Level Accounting

  • Maintain the general ledger for assigned industrial properties
  • Record monthly rent charges and tenant cash receipts
  • Review and code property operating expenses
  • Track mortgage and debt service payments
  • Track capital expenditures and record depreciation/amortization entries
  • Prepare month-end journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
  • Assist in annual tenant common area maintenance (CAM) reconciliations

 

Accounts Payable & Receivable Support

  • Process vendor invoices and assist with accounts payable workflows
  • Prepare and send monthly tenant statements
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up on outstanding balances as needed

 

Reporting & Analysis

  • Assist with preparation of monthly investor reporting packages
  • Support budget versus actual variance analysis
  • Compile executive summary commentary from property teams
  • Assist with quarterly lender reporting requirements
  • Assist with gathering of information for managed property tax returns prepared by external CPA firm

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with asset management, investment, leasing/brokerage, and operations teams to gather data and resolve issues
  • Support ad-hoc requests and special projects as assigned

 

Compliance & Process Integrity

  • Ensure adherence to internal accounting policies and GAAP standards
  • Maintain organized and accurate financial records

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications
  • Experience with Yardi, or other real estate accounting systems a plus, but not required 
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail  
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
  • A willingness to learn and grow within a collaborative environment
