Public Defender Client Advocate (on-site)
Partners for Justice (PFJ) is looking for passionate early-career professionals who want to make real change.
As a Public Defender Client Advocate, you’ll stand alongside public defenders and support clients navigating the criminal legal system. You’ll connect people to housing, jobs, treatment, and community services that can change lives.
This two-year fellowship isn’t just a job—it’s hands-on work with real purpose. You’ll build skills in communication, empathy, and problem-solving while gaining a front-row view of the justice system. You’ll train with a national cohort of Advocates, receive mentorship, and help build a more just future.
What You’ll Do
- Build trust with clients and help them identify goals.
- Connect clients to housing, healthcare, and employment resources.
- Advocate with service providers, landlords, and employers.
- Write clear, persuasive narratives for court.
- Collaborate with attorneys, social workers, and community partners.

What We’re Looking For
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds. Candidates with lived experience or a deep commitment to social justice are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Interest in public service or community advocacy.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Eagerness to learn trauma-informed approaches to client support.
- Bonus: Professional-level Spanish skills (eligible for additional pay).
This fellowship is ideal for early-career professionals. (Licensed social workers and attorneys are not eligible.)
Fellowship Salary & Benefits
- Annual salary $40,000–$61,000 (based on location).
