As a Housing Navigator, you will play a crucial role in our Housing Program, working directly with homeless individuals to help them secure stable housing. You will provide essential services such as assessments, referrals, assistance with housing applications, and transportation. Additionally, you will develop and maintain relationships with landlords to increase housing opportunities and collaborate with multiple service providers to enhance service delivery.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field.
  • Or, an Associate’s Degree or completion of two years of college coursework in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field, plus two (2) years of relevant work or volunteer experience.
  • Or, four (4) years of relevant work or volunteer experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Depending on the department assigned, a valid California driver’s license, a current DMV driving record, and proof of insurance may be required to fulfill job-related travel. Reasonable accommodations will be considered in accordance with applicable laws.

As a Housing Navigator you will:

Develop individualized housing plans and guide clients to permanent housing based on eligibility and needs.

Provide referrals and connect clients to community resources, with a focus on housing.

Deliver one-on-one case management using techniques like Motivational Interviewing and Crisis Intervention.

Assist clients in obtaining essential documents for housing acquisition.

Support completion of housing applications and coordinate transportation for appointments.

Help clients create and maintain personal budgets, including credit repair and savings strategies.

Prioritize high-need cases and connect clients to housing resources through providers and landlords.

Build relationships with local landlords to expand housing opportunities.

Ensure smooth transitions when clients move to other housing programs.

Maintain accurate client records in HMIS and complete required reports.

Collaborate with service providers and community members.

Train and guide staff or volunteers as needed; attend meetings and trainings.

Uphold principles of Housing First, Harm Reduction, and CAPSLO Homeless Services.

Follow all safety rules and practices to ensure maximum safety for self and others.
