Estimator / Project Manager
We are seeking a versatile Estimator / Project Manager to bridge the gap between the bid and the build. This is a "cradle-to-grave" position: you will identify and secure projects through precise bidding and then transition into the field to manage those same projects.
Primary Responsibilities
Phase 1: Estimating & Pre-Construction
- Quantity Take-offs: Perform detailed digital take-offs using industry software to determine earthwork volumes, utility lengths, and material requirements. Comfort with using AI tools as available is a requirement.
- Bid Preparation: Develop comprehensive hard-dollar estimates for residential, commercial, and municipal projects.
- Subcontractor/Vendor Management: Solicit and analyze quotes from vendors and specialty subcontractors to ensure competitive and complete bid packages.
- Site Inspections: Conduct pre-bid site visits to evaluate soil conditions, access constraints, and mountain-specific challenges (slope, rock, drainage).
Phase 2: Project Management & Field Execution
- Project Leadership: Act as a primary point of contact for Owners, General Contractors, and Engineers.
- Budget & Cost Control: Track real-time project costs against the estimate, managing "buy-outs," change orders, and monthly billings.
- Scheduling: Coordinate with the General Superintendent to allocate heavy equipment and crews effectively across multiple active sites.
- Close-out: Manage punch lists, as-built drawings, and final inspections to ensure a seamless project handover.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years in civil construction, specifically focused on earthwork, underground utilities, or road building.
- Education: B.S. in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent field experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in industry specific estimating software, MS Project, and AutoCAD familiarity.
- Local Knowledge: Familiarity with Colorado mountain construction (seasonal constraints, frost lines, and rock excavation) is highly preferred.
- Attributes: Strong negotiation skills, a high level of organization, and the ability to pivot between a professional office environment and an active, muddy job site.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $70,000 – $120,000+ (Commensurate with experience).
- Incentives: Performance-based bonus.
- Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) with company match & profit sharing contribution.
- Mountain Perks: Paid Time Off (PTO), company vehicle/allowance, and deep ties to local community events and organizations.
- Relocation: Assistance may be available for the right candidate looking to make Steamboat Springs their permanent home.
