Marine Wildlife Field Monitor (Texas Coast)

Zara Environmental LLC is seeking qualified Field Monitors to support construction monitoring activities along the Texas Coast near Galveston. This position involves in-person, on-site observation and monitoring of marine wildlife during active construction to ensure compliance with federal and state environmental regulations, including the Endangered Species Act and Marine Mammal Protection Act.

Field Monitors will conduct visual surveys for marine mammals, sea turtles, and other protected species; document observations; implement avoidance or shutdown protocols when required; and maintain accurate field logs and monitoring equipment. Work will be performed in a dynamic coastal environment and may include long hours outdoors in varying weather conditions.

This is not a remote or hybrid position. Monitors must be present on site during assigned construction activities and maintain daily communication with the project team via email and/or phone to report observations, coordinate monitoring coverage, and relay compliance issues. 

This position is ideal for individuals interested in marine biology, environmental science, or wildlife conservation who are seeking hands-on field experience in a complex coastal construction setting.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma
• Experience with biological field studies, wildlife observation, or environmental monitoring (marine mammal experience preferred)
• Familiarity with field equipment and data collection protocols
• Ability to remain attentive and responsive during long outdoor shifts in variable weather conditions 

Equipment and Technology Requirements

Field monitors must provide and maintain their own equipment, including: 

• Binoculars suitable for wildlife observation
• Reliable computer with daily internet access
• Reliable, working cell phone
• Digital camera (cell phone camera acceptable)
• Access to and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Active email account and proficiency with standard professional communication tools (Zoom, Teams, PDF viewers, etc.)
