POSITION: Administrative Assistant for Social and Behavioral Sciences – Full-Time - Lufkin

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
● High school diploma or equivalent.
● One year experience serving in a clerical position.
● Computer skills necessary, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel,
PowerPoint) and web browsers.
Preferred:
● Experience with technology for classroom troubleshooting.
● Proficient with Google Workspace tools like Docs, Sheets, and Drive to create, share, and manage work.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The position will report to the Chair of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences for job responsibilities
and other College related activities as outlined in the Policies and Procedures Manual. Essential duties include but
are not limited to the following:
 Serve as Administrative Assistant for the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and as point of
contact in the SBS office, performing all clerical duties.
 Serve as support and point of contact for instructors in SBS.

 Maintain the SBS classroom-use calendar and inform all full-time SBS faculty and the SBS Department Chair
of classroom use requests.
 Help direct students and visitors (such as UIL) to appropriate classrooms and areas of SBS.
 Responsible for mail distribution for all SBS instructors and Department Chair.
 Assist with maintenance issues and notify the maintenance department of issues.
 Receive midterm grades, attendance records, and final grades and maintain files for the AC registrar. This
includes full semesters, eight-week semesters, mini semesters, and both summer semesters;
 Receive Assessment data and follow designated protocols for storage of data.
 Enter the schedules for the following disciplines: HIST/GOVT; GEOG; PSYC; SOCI; PHED; SPCH.
 Enter schedule updates for the following disciplines: HIST/GOVT; GEOG; PSYC; SOCI; PHED; SPCH.
 Receive cross-training to help in other School of A and E areas (VPA and LAE) when the need arises for
additional help with schedules, schedule updates, and attendance records and grades.
 Assist LAE and VPA Administrative Assistant when needed.
 Help with front desk duties in other areas of the College when needed.
 Assist with LAE and VPA telephone calls when needed (such as Administrative Assistant absences).
 Adhere to the institution’s interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty,
parents, students, etc.
 Communicate with students, instructors, and the public professionally, pleasantly, and effectively.
 Check AC email for communications from instructors or other college personnel.
 Maintain a professional appearance.
 Arrive ahead of class time when needed to get any materials ready before class begins.
 Assist with notifying classes if there is an instructor absence.
 Be punctual and dependable.
 Perform other duties as assigned to serve the needs of the College, which may include assisting in the office by
answering phones, copying classroom materials, and other tasks to support the overall function of the
Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the School of Arts & Education.
 Assist the community and other areas of the College that utilize SBS classrooms, especially the use of SBS 110.
CONTRACT & SALARY:
$13.00 per hour in addition to excellent employee benefits. Proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United
States must be verified for the successful candidate.
