Summer 2026 - Estimating Internship – New Braunfels, TX
Overview
The Intern will join our Estimating Department for an internship providing on-hand support to our Webber Estimating Department. As an Intern, you will have similar responsibilities to those of an entry-level Estimator with a focus on Estimating, Project Planning and Marketing/Proposals. You will be assigned a mentor and will work on various pursuits to continually expand your knowledge base. Additionally, as a Webber team member, you will have the opportunity to participate in various company events and community initiatives.
Internship Goals/Task
- Develop an understanding of how estimates are prepared and submitted
- Understand contractual requirements, including issued addenda and RFI responses, and review project specifications
- Interpret plans and prepare quantity takeoffs for various project elements including drainage, retaining walls, earthwork, paving and bridges.
- Site visits to potential projects to understand the different project aspects, including traffic control, schedule restraints and bid strategies
- Assess labor, equipment, material and subcontractor requirements
- Participate and help with company bid reviews
- Assist with subcontractor solicitation, scope evaluation and bid day correspondence
- Develop software skills required to produce complete estimates including Microsoft Excel, BlueBeam and HeavyBid
- Develop time management strategies to prioritize tasks
- Research and suggest construction methodologies
- Assist in proposal reviews for alternative delivery projects
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Construction Science/Management, or related 4-year degree program
- Ability to communicate in English via verbal and written communications
- Moderate to high level of computer skills in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Full understanding of Construction Math concepts
