Description:
About IABA, Patterns Behavioral Services, and the IABA Foundation
Since 1981, IABA has championed one idea: that every person with autism or a developmental disability deserves support built on science, not guesswork. We are hiring one Marketing Intern to help tell that story across three organizations.
IABA (Institute for Applied Behavior Analysis) is a California-based pioneer of positive behavioral support since 1981. Our model is cited by California's Department of Developmental Services and recognized by the National Health Service (NHS) England.
Patterns Behavioral Services is an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy provider operating across 11 states, with centers in Culver City and Pasadena where this internship is based.
The IABA Research and Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to protecting and disseminating the science of positive behavioral support worldwide. Our training programs are taught at University College Dublin and used across six continents.
Our founders received the 2026 Policy Award and the 2010 International Leadership Award from the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD), the oldest professional organization in the field.
This is not a coffee-run internship. You will do real work that goes into real communications used internally and externally across all three organizations.
What You Will Do
You will support the Director of Marketing and Business Development with execution across IABA, Patterns, and the IABA Foundation:
Social media: Schedule and publish content across platforms from an approved content calendar. Monitor posting consistency and basic engagement.
Newsletter production: Gather content from staff, organize drafts, resize images, format copy, and prepare issues for director review and approval.
Competitor and market research: Maintain a weekly scan of competitor programs, messaging, service announcements, events, and regional outreach activity.
Marketing materials: Create and update flyers, one-pagers, and digital assets using Canva from approved brand templates.
Asset management: Organize and maintain digital asset libraries, photo folders, brand templates, and shared drives.
Reporting: Compile a monthly snapshot of newsletter and social media performance metrics including open rates, click-through rates, and posting consistency.
What You Will Produce
By the end of the 90-day pilot you are expected to deliver five concrete outputs:
- A Newsletter SOP with a repeatable production checklist and approval workflow
- A 12-Week Social Content Calendar for IABA, Patterns, and the IABA Foundation
- A Competitor Tracker updated weekly throughout the pilot
- A cleaned-up Asset Library with organized folders and current templates
- A Marketing Dashboard covering key newsletter and social performance metrics
These are not hypothetical projects. They are infrastructure the organization will use going forward.
What We Are Looking For
Required:
- Strong written communication and organizational skills
- Comfort with Canva, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and major social platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, TikTok)
- Reliable, detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Genuine interest in marketing, communications, or mission-driven health and human services work
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
Preferred:
- Portfolio samples showing writing, design, or social content work
- Coursework or experience in marketing, communications, psychology, public health, media, or a related field
- Familiarity with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar platforms
What You Will Gain
- Direct mentorship from a marketing and business development leader with hands-on experience in the behavioral health field
- Five portfolio-ready deliverables with real organizational impact and measurable outputs
- This is a working portfolio internship, not a support role. Interns are evaluated for long-term fit and the position carries a genuine possibility of extension or hire at the end of the 90-day pilot
Compensation and Schedule
Pay: $18.60 per hour Hours: 15 hours per week Duration: 90-day pilot with the possibility of extension or hire Location: Culver City or Pasadena, CA (on-site) Start date: Mid-July 2026 (tentative)
