Senior Accountant

ABOUT THE ROLE

2GO Advisory Group is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a respected San Francisco CPA firm. The firm serves high-net-worth individuals and businesses across a range of industries including real estate, estate and trust planning, wholesale, manufacturing, and business advisory.
This Senior Accountant role is a newly created position focused on reviewing trial balances, reconciling supporting schedules, and helping prepare accurate financial information for tax and financial statement engagements. It is an ideal opportunity for someone with strong general ledger experience who enjoys working through details, asking thoughtful questions, and ensuring that schedules, balances, and adjustments tie out correctly.
Working closely with firm leadership, you will contribute across a variety of client engagements while building deeper accounting expertise and growing into broader responsibilities over time.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Review client trial balances, supporting schedules, and general ledger detail to identify discrepancies, missing information, and items requiring follow-up
  • Reconcile schedules to the general ledger and confirm that reported balances tie properly before work moves forward to tax preparation or financial statement preparation
  • Analyze year-over-year fluctuations in balance sheet and income statement accounts and raise clear, practical questions on unusual variances
  • Prepare and post journal entries and trial balance adjustments within the firm's engagement software to support accurate financial statement presentation
  • Review client-provided documentation to assess whether reported amounts are reasonable, complete, and adequately supported
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements by verifying account groupings, mappings, and overall consistency of the underlying data
  • Communicate follow-up requests and clarification questions to clients primarily through email in a professional and concise manner
  • Work across multiple engagements, industries, and deadlines while partnering with firm leadership and internal team members to move projects forward efficiently
  • Support the overall close-out of accounting files by organizing workpapers, validating key balances, and helping deliver clean, review-ready information

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 1–5 years of accounting experience with strong exposure to general ledger, account reconciliations, and debits and credits
  • Solid understanding of trial balances, journal entries, and how supporting schedules tie to the general ledger
  • Experience reviewing financial data for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness — with the ability to identify inconsistencies and ask strong follow-up questions
  • Background in public accounting, corporate accounting, internal audit support, or similar hands-on accounting work preferred
  • Comfortable working across multiple assignments, changing priorities, and deadline-driven engagements
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to request information and explain reconciliation issues clearly by email
  • High level of attention to detail, sound judgment, and a willingness to dig into accounting issues until they are resolved
  • Proficiency with Excel; comfort learning engagement, trial balance, or financial statement preparation software (experience with Thomson Reuters CS, CCH Axcess, or similar is a plus)
  • CPA license or active CPA candidacy a plus — not required
  • Interest in professional growth and mentorship, with openness to expanding into broader financial statement review responsibilities over time

WHO THRIVES HERE
This role is the right fit if you are someone who:

  • Wants to make a direct impact on clients’ financial lives — not just process transactions
  • Is energized by variety — different industries, different engagement types, different problems to solve
  • Thrives working closely with senior leadership in a collaborative, mentorship-driven environment
  • Values transparency, precision, and the satisfaction of getting the numbers right
  • Is looking for a firm where your contributions are visible and your growth is intentional

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $60,000–$120,000 DOE
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Retirement plan with company match
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Direct mentorship from firm leadership with a defined path to broader review responsibilities
  • Access to global resources through Alliott Global Alliance membership
