Labor & Employment Litigation Attorney

Employment Group Job Description
Who We Are: Longstanding (75 years) and highly entrepreneurial full-service firm in
Newport Beach, CA is looking for a California licensed attorney with two (2) to ten (10)
years of employment litigation experience to join and support a thriving and growing labor
and employment (L&E) practice. Our L&E group, which complements our transactional and
general litigation groups, represents diverse businesses in nearly every sector of the economy
in California and across the nation. We pride ourselves on our expertise in handling all types
of employment matters for our clients, including advice and counseling, pre-litigation
disputes, and litigation matters, from single plaintiff cases to large representative actions
(class and PAGA). For many clients, we act as outside general counsel and trusted advisor,
and we are proud to represent so many successful businesses for so many years.

Private Clients: We represent our clients directly, not as insurance appointed counsel, which
allows us to advise our clients without any interference from outside interests. What this
means for you: you will bill at a higher billable rate, dig deeper into the issues, spend more
time directly interacting with the client, and handle less cases than at an insurance-based
firm.

What We Need: Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience (as a law clerk or
practicing lawyer) with California and/or federal employment disputes and litigation,
including pre-litigation disputes, single plaintiff cases, and class and PAGA cases. As we
handle the full spectrum of employment claims – harassment, discrimination, retaliation,
termination, and wage and hour issues, in state and federal courts – we need an attorney who
has experience working on these issues, in a law firm or corporate in-house setting. Ideally
you have 2-10 years of legal experience, but we’re open to a newly barred attorney with
significant law clerk/summer associate experience in employment issues.
What Legal Skills You Bring to the Firm: Demonstrated experience in drafting and
responding to pleadings, discovery requests, discovery and dispositive motions (motions to
dismiss, summary judgment, summary adjudication), mediation, arbitration, and trial briefs,
and trial documents, is necessary. Experience in preparing for depositions is also necessary.
Experience with mediations and arbitrations is helpful but not essential. Superior academic
performance and strong analytical and writing skills, and intellectual curiosity, are essential.
What Intangibles You Bring to the Firm: we only interview and hire personable attorneys
who are eager to work hard and do great work for our clients; who work well with others;
who take instruction and constructive feedback; who are emotionally mature; and who will
present themselves professionally (to clients, opposing counsel, courts, mediators/arbitrators)
and be good representatives of our firm and our clients.

What we Offer: We offer a friendly, collegial environment, a sophisticated practice, a
competitive salary, transparent and highly incentivized bonus programs, training and |A006|2727543.DOCX;1|
employment benefits, and the chance to learn and hone legal skills with nice people who do
great work for awesome and diverse clients across the state and the country.
