Job Description and Duties

 

Deputy Labor Commissioner II (DLC II) performs the more complex, high level technical investigations. The DLC II conducts investigative hearings on various case matters pursuant to relevant Labor Code sections, including citation hearings. The DLC II interviews witnesses, takes affidavits, collects evidence, and investigates claims to determine the extent of compliance with, and to resolve disputes arising under State labor laws and Industrial Welfare Commission orders. The DLC II assesses and collects civil penalties or initiates civil or criminal action, and meets with employers, employees, and their representatives to advise them of and to secure compliance with state laws. The DLC II may inspect places of employment and employers' records to determine the extent of compliance with the provisions of laws under the jurisdiction of the LCO.


This position requires exceptional skill in dealing with the public and in coordinating with other DLSE units in team enforcement efforts in addition to providing outreach services to educate the public and our community partners. A DLC II will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to the Mission and the Vision for the highest public good. A successful incumbent possesses exceptional interpersonal skills, analytical thinking and the ability to write well and enjoys practicing these skills throughout the day. Additionally, the incumbent derives satisfaction in the completion of a timely, impartial, full and fair investigation. This is the professional journey level.

This position is located at:

The employee will spend much of the time working at their assigned District office. Their work area will be an office or cubicle equipped with standard office equipment. Occasional travel to an off-site location may be required for meetings and/or training. Employees are expected to be able to work independently, in a fast-paced team environment, and work well with the public and co-workers.
