Finance & Operations Intern – Venture Capital 

Location: Draper Associates – San Mateo, California
Start Date: As soon as possible
Schedule: 30+ hours per week (up to full-time)
Compensation: Competitive hourly pay based on experience, up to $65/hour

Our finance and operations team plays a critical role in supporting the firm's investment activities, fund operations, and relationships with investors. This position offers the opportunity to gain meaningful experience within venture capital while working alongside an experienced finance team in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Position Overview

The Venture Capital Finance & Operations Intern will be based in Draper's San Mateo office and will support the firm's finance and operations functions. The role provides hands-on exposure to venture capital fund accounting, financial reporting, operational processes, and other projects essential to the day-to-day management of a venture capital firm.

This position is well suited for someone with a strong accounting or finance background who is eager to learn, enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work. This position has the possibility of turning into a full-time role. 

Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day fund accounting and finance operations
  • Support accounting for investment transactions
  • Assist with capital call and distribution processes
  • Maintain and reconcile accounting records and general ledger activity
  • Support quarterly and annual financial close processes
  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for audits and tax reporting
  • Assist with financial reporting and operational projects
  • Perform ad hoc accounting, finance, and analytical projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or currently a rising senior pursuing one of these degrees
  • Strong accounting and/or finance foundation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail is required
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities and a string work ethic
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
