IT Operations & Cybersecurity Intern

IT Operations & Cybersecurity Intern

Irvine, CA  |  Internship  |  On-Site  |  Paid

Want to see how IT and cybersecurity actually work inside a fast-moving robotics company?

As an IT Operations & Cybersecurity Intern at Field AI, you'll work side by side with our IT and Security team supporting the engineers who build and deploy advanced robotic systems. You'll get hands-on with Linux, endpoint management, security tooling, identity and access management, networking, device provisioning, and day-to-day IT operations — in a real production environment, not a sandbox.

This is a hands-on internship. You'll configure machines, troubleshoot real problems, work in enterprise IT and security platforms, and help improve the systems our engineers and robots depend on.

We're especially interested in students who are comfortable in — or eager to get seriously good at — Linux and Ubuntu.

What You'll Get To Do

  • Linux & Endpoint Support: Configure, troubleshoot, patch, and support Ubuntu/Linux systems alongside macOS and Windows devices. Diagnose software, driver, connectivity, and operating-system issues.
  • Help Desk & Employee Support: Resolve day-to-day hardware, software, access, and connectivity issues, and learn how IT support runs in a highly technical engineering environment.
  • New Hire Setup: Prepare laptops and workstations, install required software and security agents, enroll devices in management systems, and make sure new employees are ready on day one.
  • IT & Security Tools: Get real experience with JumpCloud, NinjaOne, CrowdStrike, AssetPanda, Vanta, Google Workspace, and other enterprise platforms used to manage and secure company systems.
  • Cybersecurity & Compliance: Find machines missing patches, security agents, encryption, or required configurations. Assist with security-alert triage, phishing reports, and SOC 2 / ISO 27001 compliance activities.
  • Asset Management: Help manage the lifecycle of laptops, desktops, GPU machines, and other equipment — inventory, check-in/check-out, deployment, recovery, and reassignment.
  • Automation & Documentation: Write clear IT documentation and, depending on your experience, use Python, Bash, or APIs to automate the repetitive work.

You'll start with clearly defined, supervised responsibilities. As you build proficiency, you'll take on increasingly technical projects alongside our IT and Security team.

What You Have

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field — junior or senior year preferred.
  • Familiarity with Linux, ideally Ubuntu, from coursework, personal projects, a home lab, or prior work.
  • Working knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, networking, and cybersecurity fundamentals.
  • Comfort troubleshooting technical problems and the instinct to dig into an issue independently.
  • Basic understanding of IP networking, DNS, VPNs, MFA, encryption, patching, vulnerabilities, and access control.
  • Strong attention to detail and the discipline to follow established IT and security procedures.
  • Genuine curiosity about how enterprise IT and cybersecurity work in a real engineering and robotics environment.

The Extras That Set You Apart

  • Strong Linux or Ubuntu experience.
  • Scripting in Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
  • Prior help desk, IT, systems administration, or cybersecurity experience.
  • Exposure to MDM, endpoint-management, or security tools.
  • A home lab, Linux server, networking build, or other hands-on technical project you're proud of.
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Linux+, or similar certifications.
  • Interest in robotics, autonomous systems, infrastructure, or cybersecurity.

What You'll Gain

By the end of the internship, you'll have practical, resume-ready experience in:

  • Linux administration, enterprise IT support, and endpoint management
  • Identity and access management, networking, and cybersecurity operations
  • IT automation, asset management, and SOC 2 / ISO 27001 compliance
  • Supporting production robotics environments

You'll work alongside experienced IT and Security professionals and see how the technology infrastructure behind a rapidly growing robotics company is built, secured, and operated.
