New Mexico Minority Business Development Agency Business Center - About the Internship

The New Mexico MBDA business center fosters growth and global competitiveness of US minority owned businesses. The New Mexico MBDA Business Center, operated by the City of Albuquerque Economic Development Department, provides global business development; access to capital, contracts and markets; strategic business consulting; evens and training. The New Mexico MBDA business center has an exciting opportunity for a business major or related major to be part of a dynamic team that supports growing business in the state of New Mexico.

Hours per Week
10 hours per week during Spring 2023 semester.

Essential Functions
·       To support MBDA business advisors in the provide management and technical assistance and information services to minority businesses and to assist with overall operation of the program.
·       Support MBDA business advisors in providing counseling on all aspects of minority business operations including marketing, management, financing, accounting, personnel, etc.
·       Outreach to minority owned business, creating lists and outreach campaigns to promote MBDA services.
·       Assist the center director and business advisor in working with community organizations to promote minority owned business services and achieve program goals. Support with business development and marketing strategy to promote the NM MBDA business center services.
·       Represent the Center director at public and private sector events that require knowledge of minority business operations and often provide promotional opportunities.
·       Assist in organizing and planning quarterly strategic meetings with special emphasis on counseling issues related to minority businesses. This may lead to research opportunities for intern to present to the business with plan for growth.
·       Participate and attend program events. Attend professional development workshops and seminars relating to minority business development with special emphasis on counseling issues.
·       Assist with email campaign and event hosting such as webinars, procurement series, other events.
·       Make updates to MBDA business center website
·       Assist with intake calls and clerical duties (phones, filing, ordering supplies, etc.)
·       Create reports, spreadsheets, and mail merging
·       Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
·       Business major (marketing, communications, business administration) or Humanities in related fields. Preferred MBA student.
·       Strong verbal and written communication skills, and ability to multi-task.
·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
·       Excellent interpersonal skills.
·       Ability to work and take initiative without close supervision.
·       Office, and standard office equipment
Working Conditions
Position is primarily located: On the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce, in the Barelas neighborhood, with remote work available and some travel to meet with different businesses, stakeholders and events.
