WESST is a statewide economic development non-profit looking for eager interns to support our growing business needs. We are looking for motivated and talented individuals to join our team. The goal of this program is to help further develop and apply your accounting skills in a professional work environment. The Finance Intern will work under close supervision of the Vice President of Finance and interact with all staff members to handle an increasing level of bookkeeping, accounting, and finance responsibilities. WESST is dedicated to developing successful future leaders, and we strive to make this internship as realistic and informative as possible.
 
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
 
Develop and deepen understanding of accounting and finance functions
•       Learn and be responsible for general ledger functions including but not limited to bank reconciliations, journal entries, and analysis
•       Maintains accounts payable in accordance with operative procedures
•       Prepares vouchers and/or purchase requisitions and verifies supportive documentation for approval. Ensures that expenses fall within the budget guidelines and verifies that funds are available to cover expenses
•        Processes and maintains a log of all revenue/cash receipts and petty cash transactions; writes transfers and deposits cash and checks
•       Maintains and properly files financial records and correspondence
•       Completes preparations and research for fiscal year & payroll audits
•       Assists with preparations for the organizational audit completed by third party auditors
•       Corresponds with vendors including billings and collections
•       Assists with and learns the grants management process
•       Other duties as assigned, and financial aptitude is developed
 
Qualifications
·        Actively pursuing a Degree in Accounting or Business Management
·        Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to meet frequently changing deadlines
·        Ability to adapt to frequent changes in workload volumes and priorities
·        Effective written and verbal communication skills
·        Ability to document methodology and protocols as required
•        Knowledge and skills with computer hardware and software, basic competency at QuickBooks, word processing and spreadsheets
•       Ability to work well with others
•       Dependability
•       Flexible, service-oriented attitude
•       Ability to work independently to meet tight deadlines
•       Strong listening skills
