Job Description And Duties

The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation is recruiting for one limited-term, full-time, Financial Institutions Examiner position within the Division of Corporations and Financial Institutions, Escrow and Mortgage Lending Office. Position to be located in the Los Angeles office. This recruitment may be used to fill subsequent vacancies of these positions within the next 180 days.

Under the general supervision of the Financial Institutions Manager (FIM), the Financial Institutions Examiner (FIE) is responsible for independently conducting review of license applications and amendments to determine compliance with statutory requirements. Reviews applications utilizing internal and external data system. Discuss with applicants, their attorneys, and prepares deficiency letters outlining items needed to complete the applications. Serves as a witness in administrative hearings concerning qualifications for licensing. The FIE also independently reviews and processes pre and post-licensure Escrow Manager applications, reviews and identifies bond deficiencies, prepares bond deficiency notifications and works with escrow companies to resolve bond deficiency matters. The FIE reviews employment applications, identifies disclosure deficiencies and resolves deficiencies with application filers. The FIE also assists FIM or a Senior FIE in various special projects including but not limited to Annual Liability Report Filing, Annual and/or Special Assessment Projects, etc.

This position has the possibility of becoming permanent.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Equivalent to graduation from college with a specialization in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, or a related business/management specialization. OR

Completion of the equivalent of 16 semester hours of professional accounting courses given by a collegiate-grade residence institution, including courses in elementary and advanced or intermediate accounting, auditing, and cost accounting; and three semester hours of business law.
