Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:30am-5:00pm 

Salary: $4459 total-- $3000 stipend, $1459 educational award

Start Date: June 3rd, 2024

End Date: July 26th, 2024

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:

Members serve to support the EAGLE Scholars program, a program within the Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation - a non-profit organization which promotes college readiness with 7th - 12th graders. The EAGLE Scholars program operates in-person, Monday through Friday, for programming. 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The EAGLE Scholars teaching internship is an incredible summer opportunity where you get to utilize your talents and skills to Inspire, Engage, and Encourage middle and high school students and help them get to college. During the in-person 8-week summer program, you will:

  • Actively engage in planning, creating, and facilitating lessons, lesson planning, curriculum support, and instruction/delivery to students
  • Lead project-based activities that help Scholars create change in their own neighborhood and beyond
  • Encourage and engage authentically and appropriately with scholars sharing your experiences, lessons learned, best advice, and knowledge
  • Chaperone and participate in weekly field trips and college visits to actively expose Scholars to new opportunities
  • Celebrate, respect, and engage in creating an inclusive, respectful environment celebrating the unique diversity of over 30 languages and cultures within our Scholars and organization.
  • Maintain strong record keeping including conversation logs, engagement tracking, and other communication or organizational records
  • Develop and keep a strong working familiarity with all program events, activities, and field trips within Google Calendar and other digital platforms
  • Chaperone field trips and college visits. 
  • Attend meetings and training/professional development sessions
  • Develop positive relationships with Scholars including serving as a mentor
  • Assist with and carry out outreach activities including individualized communication and providing Scholar support services
  • Assist with administering student assessments and collecting data.
  • Actively develop and improve your skills and practice in the above areas with our full support in mentorship and training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Belief in the power of education 
  • Interest/passion for actively working with Scholars and young people
  • Must have completed at least two years of college before the summer internship (except if you are an Eagle Scholars’ alum)
  • Must be interested in teaching or facilitating lessons for 7th-12th grade students 
  • Must be willing, open, and eager to learn and grow 
  • Education major is a plus, but not required
  • Speaking a second language is a PLUS (Farsi, Burmese, Nepali, Spanish, Rohingya, etc.)
  • Experience working with second language learners is a PLUS.
