Wastewater Plant Operator

About the Position:

We are seeking a skilled and responsible Wastewater Plant Operator to join our team and play a crucial role in the operation and maintenance of our wastewater treatment facility. The Wastewater Plant Operator will be responsible for monitoring, controlling, and optimizing the various processes within the plant to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and the efficient treatment of wastewater. About the Wastewater Division: 

The wastewater division at the City of Grand Junction is responsible for managing and treating the city's wastewater. The Persigo wastewater treatment plant is the largest treatment works in the western Rocky Mountain region, with a capacity of 12.5 million gallons per day (mgd). This facility uses advanced technologies such as bio trickling filters for odor control, primary clarifiers, aeration basins, anaerobic digesters, UV disinfection, and an effluent diffuser to treat wastewater to a high standard. What You'll Do: 

  • Observe and control the operation of the activated sludge process, anaerobic and aerobic digesters, chlorination, and flow equalization.
  • Perform microscopic examination of mixed liquid in the activated sludge process; identify certain types of protozoan life in activated sludge.
  • Mix, load, and unload chemicals used in the treatment process including chlorine, sulfur, dioxide ferrous chloride, and polymers; connect chemicals to appropriate plant systems. 
  • Perform all mechanical and biological processes throughout the wastewater treatment plant to maintain effluent quality within State and Federal standards and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Qualifications

This position is a safety-sensitive position, which means you will be subject to random drugscreens due to the nature of the work performed.
 

What We're Looking For:  

  • Three (3) years of prior experience working in a laboratory, drinking water, wastewater or similar environmental field.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver's license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within up to five (5) years of hire, Class A Wastewater Operator certification, depending upon certification level at the time of hire.

Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
