Job Title: General Accountant

Department: Accounting

Reports To: Controller 

Direct Reports: Accounts Payable

Status:  Exempt


 

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Controller, the position is accountable for the daily accounting operations, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.


 

Responsibilities

· Perform daily and month end close duties, ensuring accuracy of cash, fixed asset ledger system, preparing audit schedules, and performing account reconciliations and financial analysis 

· Prepare month-end journal entries and supporting documentation, including cash accounts, other receivables, inventories, prepaids, non-current assets, current and long-term debt & interest, other payables, accrued expenses, non-current payables, affiliate & related party receivables and payables.

· Prepare journal entries for balance sheet accounts through review and reconciliation of account activity and balances and maintains reconciliation roll forwards.

· Gather affiliate and related party support for reconciliations. 

· Maintains fixed asset software, record new asset purchases, ensures items are capitalized/expensed in accordance with company policy and GAAP, reviews accounts for misclassified fixed assets, completing adjustments when needed.

· Completes monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reporting.

· Assists with monthly preparation and analysis of business units’ profit and loss reporting. 

· Support in preparation by client schedules and documentation for auditors and support timely completion of the audit. 

· Perform daily accounts payable including accruing and processing of payment.

· Research and application of GAAP.

· Review the improvement of business processes, make recommendations to automate functions.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting. Graduate degree a plus. 

 

Experience:

-Minimum of 3-5 years related experience in accounting. 

-Public accounting experience is a Plus.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

CPA a plus, but not a requirement.

 

Computer   Skills:

· Experience with and quick learner of ERP and accounting software   systems.

· Advanced Excel user including pivot tables and VLOOKUP’s.

·

Analytical   or Reasoning Abilities:

· Strong   analytical, planning skills and critical thinking ability required with   orientation for continuous improvement.

· Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions 

· Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.

 

Communication   Skills: (Writing, Foreign Language, Reasoning)

· Highly effective, articulate communication skills (verbal & written) with strong   interpersonal effectiveness and the ability to work with all levels in the   organization and across cultures

· Bilingual English and Spanish preferred

 

Other   Skills (Technical, or Other special knowledge and abilities)

· Problem solver with a   positive attitude and ability to make appropriate decisions

· Flexibility in dealing with a variety of multiple projects and demands, business partners, and   situations while remaining calm under pressure 

· Supervisory   experience. 

· Strong familiarity  with GAAP and internal controls.


 

Physical Requirements:

· Must be able to lift 25 pounds individually and team lift 50 pounds
