Sensor Research Specialist / Documentation Analyst

Overview:
In today’s Android smartphone ecosystem, sensor hardware is often undocumented, poorly described, or highly vendor-specific. As a Sensor Research Specialist / Documentation Analyst, you will play a critical role in building institutional knowledge around low-level sensor hardware. Your work enables machine learning engineers and software developers to make intelligent use of sensor data, even in the absence of transparent manufacturer information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain an internal, searchable database or wiki of hardware sensor documentation across major Android smartphone vendors and models.

  • Conduct deep technical research, including mining vendor datasheets, public FCC filings, patents, teardown reports, and reverse engineering communities to extract meaningful details about sensor chips and modules.

  • Identify and prioritize undocumented or poorly understood sensors based on their importance to current app development or ML integration.

  • Strategically flag sensors requiring reverse engineering due to missing or contradictory documentation.

  • Synthesize findings into precise technical briefs for software and machine learning teams—highlighting known behaviors, operational tolerances, and conditions prone to interference or signal distortion.

  • Clearly mark uncertainty zones where sensor behavior remains unknown, guiding test engineers and reverse engineers in further investigation.

  • Act as a technical bridge between hardware knowledge and software application—ensuring context, clarity, and actionable insight flow into algorithm development.
