Information Security Intern
June 2018 • Mahwah, NJ
What I liked
I love the work culture in UPS. Everyone is always ready to help you, especially my team was very encouraging and supportive.
What I wish was different
I wish I had more interns in my team.
Advice
My internship at UPS was a great experience which helped me to learn new skills and only to apply my knowledge into practical experience. One advice I would like to share is that internships are always a very valuable experience for all the students and when you are at a company for internship, utilize the opportunity to learn and also to make connections.

ISM Co-op
February 2018 - October 2019 • Parsippany-Troy Hills, NJ
What I liked
I liked the environment of the office. The office was built a few months before I started working there, so I got to experience a more modern work flow with more collaboration than a traditional office. The office was laid out with a more "open" cubicle design; the cubes were roughly 3-4ft tall, so you could easily talk to and collaborate with your neighbors.
I liked how hands-on my internship was. I was put on real products, working with real teams for products that would be used by customers around the world. I ended up designing and building an application from the ground up with the help of other interns.
I also liked the hackathon they hosted for us, as it gave us opportunities to work and network with other teams and individuals around the office.
What I wish was different
I wish the team I was working with was more equipped for the jobs given to us. I had no mentors to ask questions, and no other in house workers other than other interns to ask for help. From what I've heard from other interns, my situation was a bit of an anomaly, however it lead me to a lot of valuable information that really benefited me in the long term. For example, I learned how to read documentation in order to learn the tools, which is a very valuable skill to have. I also wish the teams would make better use of the tools given to us (i.e. Version Control). There was a bit of a gap in knowledge with our team, as the developers on our team were equipped for a different set of tools than the ones we got tasked to work with.
Advice
UPS makes a great foot in the door for less experienced workers. They don't expect you to know everything, which is great for students who have never worked internships prior to this one. I would recommend researching and learning a lot of the tools used on your own time, as we were never given any real time to "train". Make efforts to learn, collaborate, and really make use of what you're given to work with.

UPS Warehouse Worker
February 2018 • Cincinnati, OH
What I liked
Excellent pay for the type of work, and schedule that’s compatible with school hours, and it being a union job means that there’s more of a balance of power between workers and management, which often isn’t the case with unskilled labor jobs.
What I wish was different
I wish that I were able to work in the morning during summers and other times off from school, since working in the evening means the rest of the day can feel like just waiting to go to work.
Advice
Always work union jobs when you have the opportunity to do so.

Corporate Planning Intern
May - August 2020 • Atlanta, GA
What I liked
I enjoyed the learning experience. I had the opportunity to learn a new program called Power BI that I used to create visual models for financial history and goals. It was a form of data analysis, which is becoming very popular and will be great for my future career goals.
What I wish was different
I didn't enjoy the team I worked with. I only met with my team maybe once every two or three days. The lack of communication made it hard to enjoy the experience. Upper-level management was not very involved either in the intern's work. I also felt like they were not very involved with their interns, and the salary was cut short.
Advice
I would advise students to join an income-generating role. I feel like internal workers have more politics in the workforce and are not cared for as much.
